About me

I’m Tommy Mai, a fourth-year Industrial Design student at the University of Cincinnati. Growing up in Hanoi, Vietnam, with Japanese parenting, I developed a passion for well-crafted products and a deep sense of care for people. I approach every project with discipline, responsibility, and a drive to push my limits, enabling me to contribute meaningfully and build trust within teams.Outside of design, I enjoy playing tennis, practicing Mandarin, cooking Vietnamese and Japanese dishes, and taking a moment to admire the beauty of the sky ⛅.

Industrial Design Intern | New York, NY | January - April 2025
Contributed to the design of ergonomic products—from chairs to office tech accessories—through ideation, 3D modeling, prototyping, and visualization. Took initiative in exploring and leading early-stage concepts in a new area of interest for Humanscale. Helped foster a more engaging company culture through self-driven, impact-focused initiatives.

Industrial Design Intern | San Francisco, CA | May - August 2024
Worked with a small design team to rapidly generate and refine concepts from sketches to CAD, prototyping, and manufacturing. Contributed to diverse projects across consumer electronics and automotive industries.

Key Tech

Industrial Design Intern | Baltimore, MD | August - December 2023
Assisted the team in defining aesthetics, developing user interfaces, CAD, conducting physical user testing, and prototyping architecture concepts. Led the design for a medical diagnostics device set to release in 2026.
